Sigiriya, also known as Lion Rock, is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District. Built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century AD, this UNESCO World Heritage Site rises 200 meters above the surrounding jungle. The site features the remains of an ancient palace complex, stunning frescoes of the famous Sigiriya maidens, the mirror wall with ancient graffiti, and the impressive lion's paw entrance. The panoramic views from the top are breathtaking, overlooking forests, gardens, and distant mountains.
